We interrupt our normal Treat Yo’ Self Thursday programming with a different kind of treat… a refreshing one with an adult kick.

For those of legal drinking age, I give you:

  • Servings: Makes one drink
  • Difficulty: easy

Ingredients
2-2 1/2 oz. vodka (gin or a light rum would be delicious as well)
1 1/2 oz. tonic water (add more or less depending on desired strength of drink)
1 tbsp. honey
2 tsp. turbinado sugar
4-5 fresh lemon basil leaves
Handful of blueberries (about 1/2 cup)
1 1/2 tsp. balsamic vinegar
1 lime (1/2 cut into wedges, the other half juiced)
Ice (for the shaker and your drink)
Optional: 1 tsp. chia seeds

Directions
1. In a highball or rocks glass, muddle the blueberries, basil, sugar, 1/2 tsp. of the balsamic vinegar, and lime wedges. (No muddler? Use the back of a spoon.)

2. In a shaker filled with ice, pour the vodka (I used Ocean Organic Vodka…yep, even vodka is organic these days), lime juice, honey, tonic water (it and remaining teaspoon of balsamic vinegar in and with the lid secured, shake for about 30 seconds.

3. Strain and pour the drink into your glass. Top with blueberries, a slice of lime and some chia seeds (optional) for garnish.

And in the wise words of Missy…

Okay, so Missy Elliott may or may not have actually said that exact phrase, but you get the point. 😉
